Workshop Great Barrier Reef

What will happen at the workshop?

The workshop will happen between September and October 2025 on two days with approx. 4 - 5 weeks in-between. I have planned different sessions and creative interactions on both days.

PLEASE NOTE THAT WORKSHOP PLACES ARE LIMITED.

On day 1 we will meet for informative sessions and interesting topic talks where your child will learn exciting scientific things (without getting bored, I promise!), followed by discussions and creative interactions. In the end I will ask your child to fill out a short survey.

Day 1

  • Information sessions & topic talks
  • Creative interactions
  • Surveys before Reef experience

On day 2 we will take boat trip to the Reef for an exciting snorkelling experience. We will also have some smart scientists on board who can tell us more about corals, climate change impacts on the Reef and ecological grief. This will be an exciting and educational trip. If a kid is not able to swim, this is not a problem, he/she can also just stay on the boat and experience the Reef from above the water.
Please note: Your child has to attend the first workshop to participate the boat trip, BUT the attendance of the first workshop is no guarantee for the participation in the trip because places are limited. I will do my best to take as many kids as possible with me on the boat.

Day 2

  • Boat & snorkelling trip at the Reef
  • Reef sitting 'n chatting
  • Surveys after Reef experience

Locations (probably Bundaberg and/or Townsville), dates, time and duration will be published in due course. This is dependent on the interest and number of participants. Food and drinks will be provided for both workshop days (also vegan options).

How can I prepare for the workshops?

You do not have to prepare for the workshops, but you can talk to your child about the topic so that they know what this is about. You can also ask your child to collect some natural things like shells, broken corals, branches, stones, leaves or anything alike before workshop day 1. We will use these things for some creative interaction at the workshop day 1. However, collecting is not a must, but as I experienced it myself, I know how much kids enjoy doing this.

I will give you a list with important things (swim wear, towel, etc.) that you will need to bring to each workshop day in due course.

What happens between workshop days?

Approx. 4 - 5 weeks will be in-between both workshop days. In this time I will ask you and your child to keep diaries and/ or to meet with me for a private interview with you and your child. When interested, you will get all needed information. Feel free to contact me!
